It has been an honour to speak with the residents of Brent East and have the opportunity to represent your views in Parliament.
I have been working hard meeting constituents, local businesses and campaign groups, understanding which issues are most important, how I can best support people locally, and where efforts should be focused.
I have listened to those views and the issues raised are addressed here in My Plan for Brent East.
As your MP, my priorities will be: tackling crime; building more family and first homes; saving our high-streets and backing small businesses; upskilling the next generation, and giving everyone easy access to care. So here is my plan for Brent East; it's time for a fresh start, and a fresh voice.
1. Tackling Crime
Residents are concerned about the rise in shop-lifting and gang-related crime in the area. I will work hard, with local police and business owners, to tackle this.
Since 2019, we’ve removed 138,000 dangerous weapons from our streets, and we want to do more. I back our innovative approaches to cutting crime, like using metal detector wands to minimise the invasiveness of stop and search; and investing more in youth clubs.
2. Building Family & First Homes
Residents have expressed their concerns about the type of homes being built in Brent East - they want family homes, and affordable rents.
Affordable rent schemes enable people to save for their first homes, and as a young person who struggled to get onto the ladder, I relate to this. In Brent we don’t just want more 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. We need family homes. This will be a priority for me. As will, ensuring that new developments come with infrastructure. That’s why I support the Conservative plan, to ensure new GP surgeries are built in areas with new housing growth.
3. Backing Small Businesses & Saving our High Streets
Access to cash is crucial for small businesses and residents, which is why I will campaign that every major high street in Brent East provides access to a bank, or banking hub.
I will also call for a major review of the business rates system.
4. 100,000 more apprentices a year
The Conservative government has delivered over 5.8 million apprenticeship starts since 2010.
I'm a small business owner and I've given paid work experience to young people. I've seen first-hand the benefits this has had on their confidence and careers.
That’s why I back our plan to help small businesses provide 20,000 apprenticeship opportunities, in addition to 100,000 new apprenticeships every year.
5. Easy Access to Healthcare
Healthcare is a priority for us all. We will focus on healthcare and technology efficiencies, to drive more appointments and improve patient satisfaction in Brent.
Supply must match demand, which is why I back the Conservative plan to build 100 new GP surgeries in areas of housing growth. I will push for our fair share of these surgeries in Brent.
6. Keeping Brent Beautiful
Brent is beautiful, but the local Labour Council are not listening to residents’ concerns about blue bags, fly-tipping, potholes, pavements and the general upkeep of the area.
This is why I back the Conservative plan to make fly-tipping an offence which carries 3 to 6 penalty points on a driving licence.
